it has a four pin (female) connector to it, that is dangling in the engine compartment. Is that normal ? This is on a 2000 180 TTQC with Xenon lights (but as far as I know the ballast is on the right inside of the passenger side headlight (when standing in front of car, looking to the rear)...

Default it's the Xenon ballast. Earlier models had this external, newer ones it's on the back of the headlig

Did you buy your TT used? It may be some sort of car alarm?

Default No, I've had it for four years (bought new in jan. 2000).. Just noticed this now..>

When I was trying to get the false coolant alarm fixed.. It's completely stock for the rest (except some mintex pads).

Default On my 2001 TT, the ballast was attached to the car

below the headlight. I am trying to relocate it to make room for the TTDA feeds. This should not be "dangling". Does it have a black bracket attached to it?

On your pic, you have circled two cable sockets, is this for the turn and parking lights?
