Broke Dipstick Holder - Some days nothing goes right.
The yellow tube is part # 06A 103 663 B.
It snapped just above the metal tube going into the engine.
What a pisser.
Any suggestions?
Am I to presume that the yellow tube has an inner and outer section that slips over the metal tube below?
I was going to try 2 different methods to remove what is left. I don't like the breaking off method for fear that stuff will drop down the tube.
Method 1:
Get a section of 1/4" threaded rod and put a nut on one end up and inch or two from the end. Drop as small washer on top of the nut, then add a second nut on top of the washer. I would then insert into the tube and try pulling upward to release the remaining part of the tube. Obviously I can't pull on 360 degrees of the area.
Method 2:
Put a stop collar around the tube and tighten to a very loose fit, but enough to fit underneath the flared portion of the yellow tube and then pull upward.
Any idea how much force it takes to get this thing to release?

as you can see, I broke off small pieces from the inside out with a pliers. because the plastic is so brittle, only what is gripped by the pliers breaks away(for the most part).
No large chunks dropped down the tube. I nibbled the plastic tube down slowly and when i got to the end i pried the last piece off and picked the small ring left behind.
Also, keep in mind...it is plastic and any pieces that drop are going into the oil pan....i.e. before the filter.
I did the nibble method because i wanted a controlled disassembly of the tube, i didnt want to try to yank it off in one piece and have it explode...
hope this helps...like i said...the risk isnt that high because:
a: its plastic
b: pieces will drop before the oil filter
good luck
