Default Dipstick cover - Help please

Guys,

I went to get my oil chaged the other day and the guys that did it told me the yellow/orange tube that the dipstick goes into broke and was kind of hanging off the engine...they tried to pull it back up but could not. They also wondered why it was made of plastic with all that heat around the engine, mentioning most covers they have seen were made of metal. Anyways, I did notice that the tube was cracking in the past so I am pretty sure it was not something these guys did, but more my fault for not looking into this sooner.

Anyone have this same issue with the cracking yellow plastic? How would I get a replacement? Is it dangerous to drive with this missing? Will oil be coming out as I drive or paritcles coming in?

Any help welcomed!

Regards,

Tan

Default I changed mine when did TB, it was already cracked. >>

you can get it at the dealer or places like ECS, it is a $5 part, very easy to replace. Just remove the protective cover (1/4 turn retainers) on the front of the motor, remove the 2 (or 3?) bolts that hold the metal bracket to the intake manifold, lift it a bit and it should be loose, it is held in place by a tab on the front side of the plastic tube. Make sure you remove all the small plastic leftover parts as not to drop anything into the motor's crankcase (it may jam the oil pump). Install is reverse procedure. It should take 5 minutes to do. About driving without this part, I wouldn't do it.
This should be added to the TB replacement procedure....

Hope it helps

Default Sheesh. It's not like a similar part hasn't been breaking on Audis since the 1980s.

Ya' think they'd have figured this one out by now.

Default Mine snapped when doing my Dahlback Manifold.........

My son is picking one up from a VW dealer in Chicago today. I was told that it just presses onto the metal tube.

Now to figure out how to get the broken part off.
