Wierd sound when braking ..

Wierd sound when braking ..
When I apply firm or hard brakes on my 01 TT there is a knocking sound that comes from the area aboe the break pedals. Sounds like a short pop and it only does it once. Any ideas/

Little early for those then, but look at them..>>
The strut tower caps should have about 3/8th of an inch clearance between them and the body of the car. Pop the hood and look. Much more and they're starting to collapse.
Applying brakes torques the strut forward. Look at other things that are known to cause noise like sway bar links, the bar itself, Ball joints, caliper mounting bolts, etc...

I had the same thing. Started happening after tracking the car.
Took it to a race prep shop and they did a "nut and bolt." Spent 2 hours or so tightening everything on the car to spec. That solved the problem. Have no idea which bolt, obviously.
Replacing the front struts, links, strut bushings, etc did nothing. Also retorqued the subframe bolts. Nothing worked until the "nut and bolt."
