Default Listen for a faint ticking sound.. tic, tic, tic

The answer is no, there isn't. It's a fatigue problem and there are no measurable symptoms.

Default Re: TB question....

You'll get varying answers. I just did mine at 82k, which a lot of people will say "you're insanse." My car has been full of f-ups, but when I asked about the condition of the timing belt and water pump and impeller, the local shop said they showed normal wear and tear, but certainly not ready to fail (still glad I did it though). So who knows. It would be nice, since we are in the 21st century, to have an automobile that could detect when vital parts of the engine are close to failing. I guess the chain 'belts' are a good idea, although I don't know enough about them. But as for warning signs, I don't think there are any.

Just did my own at 57K. The parts I took out "looked" as good as the ones I put in.Oh well...

Default My TB died a few days ago at idle while sitting at a stoplight . . . (79,200)

The only warning I had was folks on this board telling me "you're insane" "get it done now" and "don't wait" - but I figured that statistics are just that - statistics.

The original book says 120k, the Bentley states 105k, but listen to the players in the street. The players say 60k or 5 years whichever comes first.

Me? I was in Las Vegas, shot the craps, now I gotta pay the dealer. You should drop some quarters in the slots (change the TB). You'll still spend some money, but you'll have fun and walk away with a smile on your face. You may even want to return in the future and do it again.
