Default hit HUGE pothole....is it possible to.....

hit HUGE pothole....is it possible to have damage and not know it. alignment is fine. tires and rims look ok as far as i can see. if there was any damage to axle, suspension ect would i be able to tell. that pothole was huge and got my passenger side front and rear tires.

Reason i ask is because i have an 800 mile trip to go on tomorrow.

Default yup....

you can throw your alignment off, bend rims and damage tires without any outwardly visible signs

Default Re: How fast were you going?

hit it at about 25-35 mph. afterward i got it to about 80mph on the freeway with no noise, wheel shake, vibration, or alignment problems. looked for sidewall bubbles inside and out of tire and there is nothing. i just cant belive this car could take a hit like that. thats why i wanted to check here and see if anything could be wrong that would not be noticable.

Default I would say if you feel nothing strange and car drives straight, you are OK

Watch you tire wear. Check after 500 miles, 1000 miles, etc. for any strange tire wear patterns.

Default It would be a good idea to have your alignment checked.

Even though it drives straight it is possible you knocked it out enough to give you some unusual tire wear.

Default I am the expert as far as potholes go. >>>>

I've damaged many wheels in my day due to alot of things. But at 35 MPH and if you have atleast 30 PSI, you should be fine. Then again assuming you have like 40 or 45 side walls. But if you ever get the car in the air it couldn't hurt to take a look at the back of your wheels for any damage. Other than that if your alignment isn't even affected .....your fine.

Plus if you've had an alignment recently and the shop warranties it....Just go in and have another one done and might as well rebalance the wheels just for a piece of mind.
