Default brake pad measurements

Is there some information on Audi recalculating how they determine brake pad % left? I just had my final waranty work done and it said my front and rear pads had 80% left while the time before (in May) it said fronts were 60% and rear were 70%. I called and asked if they were trying to avoid doing warranty repair work and was told that "they no longer include the backing plate in their measurements so the percentages will reflect differently". Color me stupid, but, that doesn't make sense to me.

Default It's just an estimate, but if you're not familiar with brake pad thickness, then it is unlikely that

you have burned up enough pad to justify a warranty replacement.

Default take a visual look at the pad thickness...easy for rears...harder to see fronts without

taking wheel off but possible. you can see how close the backing plate is to the rotor. anything less than 1/8" or so should be replaced soon...and thinner, immediately.
