Default steering rack update >> so the TT feels like brand new...

had the steering rack replaced. was making noise for about a year now...and the steering never felt as nice as it does now. smooth and precise (with the Defcons).

total damage: $1438 with tax

had a remanufactured unit put in...new one would have cost close to $1,000. all wheel alignment done as part of it...CV boot replaced and 2 sway bar links...both damaged due to PS fluid leakage (all over the place).

Default only 46xxx miles...no crashes, nada. i did notice that the steering or at least the right

side of the car was making some noise. even when standing...and reving engine, the noise would be there. i suspected the WP...but i did change that when i did the timing belt...but one cannot be certain these days. i ruled out most of the culprits like brakes (rubbing against something), wheel/tire and anything in motion noises. was like that for over a year...maybe almost 2 years. steering wasn't sloppy or anything...nothing like it is now, which feels like when i picked up the car new. strange.

Default KMD tuning...indie shop. the dealer would have nailed me for a brand new rack at $1K.

and i would suspect that the total damage would then be closer to $2,300 or so with higher labor and parts costs.

Default yeah, but who would've thunk that the steering rack would give out...

it would be the last thing in my mind. i would even say clutch or altenator before the steering rack.

Default it's an audi! also the design of the innards of that rack >>

LHS Chryslers emulated that design for less $$ and are riddled with problems. Mine (300M)went at ~40K miles

Default sucks. although when it works, it works well. odd that the steering feels better than new

feels light as well. maybe its the alignment also that did that.
