Is the Mark 1 TT Roadster the scion of the 356 or a reincarnated 60s era MGB?
I used to love walking up Walnut Street from Van Pelt Library and seeing that british racing green baby just glistening in the rain. It always rained in Philly but that was okay with me because the B always looked even more incredible to my eyes when it was all beaded up. I loved that car and even though it had a few glaring faults, it was so satisfying is so many ways. Just like our TTs. One thing the B had over the TT was the awesome sound from its 8-Track, 3 point speaker system with an 8 inch rear base speaker ported into the trunk... 'She came in through the bathroom window' ramped to volume setting 11... memorable.
Well, here we are so many years later and I was thinking in between tokes while standing in the garage and looking at the TT, "Damn if this isn't the car I always knew the MGB could have been if it were German!". And it's a good thing.
Back to the garage. I left a Martini out there.
Not to say I wouldnt mind driving a New Karmann Ghia or whaterevr they may have called it.
That said after eight years of ownership and too much money poured into it making it something more than its desginers originally planned on...I still smile...Still admire the beauty in its simplicity, which I feel I have not deviated too far from in terms of looks...Now maybe in performance ;-)
