OT. In need of insurance advice on accident and no it wasn't the TT.

OT. In need of insurance advice on accident and no it wasn't the TT.
Facts:
1. Wife's SUV totaled last night by drunk driver
Drunk driver cited and arrested with charges.
2. Wife's ok with bumps and bruises released from hospital after 3 hours.
3. 18,000.00 owed on SUV probably worth about 16,000.00. however when I bought it I made sure I bought "gap" insurance.
4. Drunk driver has insurance (a miracle within itself up in my area)
Ok guys, any advice on what to do? Do I need a lawyer or do I work with their insurance company? etc. etc.

See what they offer, first. In a minor rear ending, we submitted $500 or so in
medical bills (chiropractor) to State Farm and they offered us $800.
If you really just want them to pay the hospital bill and $20k for a new truck, that shouldn't be a big deal. They'll be grateful for the opportunity to close the books quickly.
If you want to collect pain and suffering, etc, you'll need a lawyer.
If they give you any crap about the settlement, then get a lawyer. Just don't sign anything. Or tell them what it's worth, gap insurance, or such.
"Here are my medical bills. I also require $20k to replace my truck."

just had similar experience 10.5k, non drunk but cited
Called my insurance co. had them chase the other party. Paid the 10.5k, car's fixed and am awaiting the repayment of deductible.
