"P0118 - Engine coolant temperature circuit, high input" - this resolved with a new coolant sensor?

Maybe....>

Unless it's caused by a mechanical problem (water pump or thermostat). What are the temps on the HVAC block 49 readout?

no vag com. water and oil temps seemed normal on the gauges.

You should be OK with that fix, but...>>

Check the temps digitally with the HVAC controls..No Vag necessary:

Press [Recirc] and [Up arrow] buttons together. Use left 'temp' control
Dial to 49. Press [Recirc] button again to display value. On average, normal operating temp is around 90 (degress C)

To return to HVAC controls back to normal, press [Recirc] and [Up arrow]
buttons together.
Display should return back to temperature control/display.
