Question about swapping bolts. Yesterday, among other things, I ordered bolts for the control arms,
I re-ordered the control arm bolts because I "lost" the first ones I ordered. But, last night they re-appeared.
When replacing the struts, the bolt going through the carriage was pretty badly corroded (passenger side was VERY bad). Since I did not have replacement, I put them back in.
Well, last night after getting out the other control arm, I took out the carriage bolt (#12 on the page listed in the Bentley) and compared it to the new bolt I had for the front bush on the control arm.
They appear to be nearly the same length (the ctrl arm bolt is just a tiny bit longer) and same size. Threads fall in the same range.
Since I'm impatient and trying to get things done (no real order, but just when I can), even though I nave new bolts coming specifically for the struts, these seemed to fit, so I put them in (the news ones which are for the front bushes).
Is that an issue? Only thing that comes to mind is IF the threads are moved forward (tad extra length) and move a thread or two out of the nut (decreasing the holding capacity of the nut).
Also, not sure if I read the Bentley correctly. Is that nut really 86 ft-lbs? Damn, cuz my torque wrench only goes to 81!
