Go Fast Get Rotten Eggs
Knew that subject header would get you to open the message!
When I floor my 01AR 2.7T (32kmi) I occasionally get a sulphur smell. Very temporary but noticeable. Not always but prob 1 in 10.
Ideas? Catalytic converter?

yup...
...sure sounds like the catalyst in your CC has burned out prematurely. I'm just guessing that too rich a mix leaving the engine, meaning too much unburnt fuel hitting the CC (which is exactlywhat it's designed to do... resulting in cleaner emissions) - though this tends to be symptomatic of other issues further upstream
You'll have to replace the CC anyway, but you might want to run it past a tech or two and see what they say about how your turbo engine is doing.

Had the same problem with a previous Audi...
I had a '94 100CS wagon which developed the same problem. Brought it to the dealer and was told that it's the sulfur content in the gasoline I was using (I used mostly EXXON at the time). They suggested I switch gasoline brands but I was very skeptical until they handed me a copy of an article from some automotive magazine which talked about this problem affecting many car brands. Sure enough, I started using Mobil, and the sulfur smell went away within a few weeks.
