US Latch vs European Isofix system for child seats
In Europe since a few years the ISOFIX system is promoted, which has the same lower anchors, but not the tether anchor. Means easier to mount/dismount, but less safe? Anyone aware of research done on this?
How standard is Latch in US and when was it introduced? How common is it?
Isofix in Europe is now available for most new cars (often as optional!), but the EU still has not accepted it as a universal standard, although technically it is universal. This means that many factory seats are not allowed in other car brands, although there is no technical/safety reason why it shouldn't. As most ISOFIX seats can be used also without the lower anchors, fixing them with the rear seat belt, and have the EU authorization for that, in these cases you are allowed to use them in the less safe manner (with the belts) and not in the safer manner (with ISOFIX). Really crazy.
I am using a BMW ISOFIX Junior Seat that I bought a year ago for $400 in my ar, of course using the anchors, and do not dream of spending another $300+ for an Audi ISOFIX seat.

https://forums.audiworld.com/allroad/msgs/71738.phtml</a
