Default Steering Wheel Tiptronic Controls

Recently purchased 03 Allroad 2.7 tip premium pkg including multifunction steering wheel. No tip controls on wheel. Owners manual shows multifunction wheel with tip conrtols and provides instructions for use.
Any one have an 03 2.7 w/mulitfunction wheel w/tip?

I think they stopped this on US models after '01 or early '02.

Default 'nother wrinkle...

My '01 Tip (with premium package and heated multifunction steering wheel) has the Tip controls... but it also has the phone controls built into it (this particular wheel is designated when the phone option is purchased, replacing two audio system controls with phone controls. You can see it in the owner's manual).

The rub: My car was not equipped with a phone when I took delivery of it, however.

I am trying to determine if the factory phone option was 'deleted' or removed from the car by the previous owner, or if it was simply a flub.

Can anyone who has the factory phone shed some light on the situation?

This has been discussed in the past, a forum search may provide some more answers.

From what I remember, all 2001's (including mine) came with the phone button. It's non-functioning for those of us without the factory phone.

The discussion went on about wiring the button to seek, scan or do anything with the stereo, but no luck.

On one hand, we're stuck with the non-functioning phone button, but on the other hand we have a heated steering wheel and tip buttons!

Default all 2001's

From what I remember, all 2001's (including mine) came with the phone button.

Weird... I believe ya, but it' strange to me that my 2001 owner's manual quotes a different wheel for non-phone equipped cars... doesn't make sense that the first year of the car (in N/A) would show an optional wheel but wouldn't offer it.

(shrug)

Perhaps the phone was a destination-installed option that dealers would sell, and a lot of cars walked off the lot without it.

Default My '02 has the tip controls....

it comes in handy when I'm in tip mode in rush hour Bay Area traffic. I can hold the current gear for quick cut and thrust driving in heavy traffic.

It also has the phone controls, although I don't have the factory phone. And no, unless you get the thousand dollar Audi phone, you can NOT get a stock V60 motorola phone to synch with it. People have tried. It doesn't work.

Default When I collected my car from the dealer in July 2001....

I asked about the phone buttons. I was told that they were there regardless of whether or not a phone was installed. I declined the phone option since the '01 telematics (such as they were) could only work with the POS Audi analog phone. I have since given up on the dream of seamless communications integration in this car.

Damn I love my heated steering wheel in this weather and I am a regular tip button user. Makes me think long and hard about whether to keep or replace this car, even for a current model ar.

When was the heated wheel deleted from the 2.7?
I wonder what Audi stocks for replacement steering wheels.

Default Dunno about allroads, but on the '01 A6 the wheel with phone buttons were part of a package...

the Convenience Package, I think.

So if you got the package you got the wheel with the useless buttons, irrespective of the phone install.

No package = wheel with the left/right arrows to seek.
