Default Confused about '01 options

I'm pretty new to this forum, so I apologize if the answer to this is out there somewhere and I just didn't find it. I'm anxiously awaiting the 2.7T I ordered back in April (PSK, PPL, PPX, PAW, PBS), and gather that the early '01s had some things missing (tip steering wheel, immobilizer, passenger seat memory). My questions are:
1. When will those missing features show up in the '01s? If my car hasn't been produced yet, am I "safe"?
2. Will the multifunction steering wheel include buttons for both the tiptronic and stereo, or just tiptronic? (Wouldn't be very multi-function if the latter, would it now?)
3. Anything else I should be sure to check when the car is finally produced?

TIA

Default even AoA doesn't not know, but one thing seems certain ....

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/steeringwheeloptions2001.jpg"></center><p>.... you get the tip buttons or the stereo/phone buttons, but not both. These diagrams are from my 2001 Owner's Manual. In my 120 miles so far I use the radio buttons all of the time, I would hardly ever use the tip buttons (except to show off how cool they are).

Famous quote from the manual:
"It has always been Audi's policy to continuously improve its products. Audi, therefore, reserves the right to make changes in design and specifications, and to make additions or improvements to its products, without incurring any obligation to install them on products previously manufactured."

Default Sorry for the bad news.

Anthony S. has had a lengthy go-around with AoA concerning missing features. This is a quote from his post concerning your questions 1 & 2.

"Unfortunately, yesterday morning, as much as Iprefer not to do such things, I sent Audi of America a complaint letter regarding my situation.

"I received a phone call this morning to discuss ways of addressing my concerns.

I was told that 1) No 2001 A6 or A8 will have tiptronic controls on the steering wheel since Audi Germany delayed the introduction for too long."

Default Nice quote. Maybe I can get it on a plaque.

I'm not bitter, really.

Default what is button "C"?

thanks for the pic.. I'm guessing a/b are volume for radio, c ?? d/e cell phone volume, f is answer/hangup?
against my better judgement, I have ordered the analog phone, as I do LOTS of country driving, and my digital is not very good with the low watts.. I figured the first time I am stranded 30 miles from nowhere, I will not regret it.<p>rick in san fran bay area

Default Re: what is button "C"?

Buttons A/B are to select phone book entries (visible in alphbetical order on the trip computer display) OR start seek on the stereo (they do not select presets!), OR change tracks of the CD player OR change channels on TV (with NavPlus in Europe).

Button C is to switch between audio system (radio / CD / TV) and phone operation.

Buttons D/E control the volume of all sources (including phone and Nav) - it just operates on the currently active device.

Button F finally ist the SEND key of the phone to start or end an outgoing call or to accept an incoming call.

If "No 2001 A6 or A8 will have tiptronic controls on the steering wheel since Audi Germany delayed the introduction for too long." then why the heck are they described in the 2001 Owner's Manual? Is Audi really that hopeless? Will Audi be able to deliver them on the 2002?<ul><li><a href="https://www.audiworld.com/forum/m/a6/msgs/16884.phtml">https://www.audiworld.com/forum/m/a6/msgs/16884.phtml</a</li></ul>

Default Good question!

Don't know. Simply relaying info. from Anthony S's AoA source. It appears that communication within AoA isn't too good. Until this statement, a lot of people in AoA were still saying that the tip wheels were coming. Even the folks who sell Audis and post on this board weren't given correct info. I speculate that diagram of the wheel with the tip comes from the European manual since tip wheels have evidently been around in Europe for awhile. Consdering the long lead times for printing and the lack of information within AoA, I think AoA expected tip wheels at the time it placed the print order.

Default Tip steering wheel was described in 2000 owners manual also

As I noticed last November. And since no 2000 A6's had tip wheels in the US, your info that the 2001 manual describes it means nothing.

Seems you're right. I suppose Audi uses the same manual for U.S. and Europe.
