Towing Performance
I have a 2001 Allroad w/ Michelin Pilot 255s (nice but noisy tire). I am buying a boat and thought I would need to get rid of my allroad but I ended up buying one that falls within the towing capacity of the allroad. With 22' boat, outboard, fuel, trailer and misc items I will be right at 3,300 lbs (possibly a little over if it is full of gas). The tandem axle trailer will have brakes.
I am curious how others have found the towing capabilities of this vehicle to be. Putting aside our bias towards this vehicle, would anyone be concerned about maxing out its towing capacity? Do you think any modifications besides the factory towing package is necessary or recommended?
I think it is relevant to note that I will be driving 3.5 - 4.5 hours to the ocean about 6 times a year with the boat from Charlotte to Wilmington or Charleston.

The tow capacity in th UK is 5600 pounds....
The car is the same but tort laws are different!
I regularly (25 times a year) tow to the race track (1800lbs) in 100 degree weather and have never had the ar complain.

The hitch itself is more than stout enough. I think you're safe at or just above the 3300 lb rating as far as engine and trans. If you were pushing 5000 lbs and have the tip, I'd probably go with an external trans cooler and possibly an engine oil cooler for extended runs up hills or high temps (summers at 90+). Climbing the Sierra Nevadas with a 3000 lb load, I can push the engine oil temp up 10 degrees F.
