Default Transmission light up?

Ok I have a B4 FWD with auto. I know I'm like the enemy here if I don't have quattro or manual. Anyway. The lightup in the trans box went out. Is this an easy get at? Liek thru that little box opening on the inferior side byt the parking brake? Also the light up in the dash went. When I recently took out the cluster, I noticed the bulbs looked to be good. I would replace them but they are soldered in. The display works so I don't think the connection is out. Has anyone replaced these bulbs ever. Or even better has anyone ever replaced this with the temperature sensor some B4's came with?

Thanx

You will need to remove that center holder to get to it, not difficult to see what to do next once you get it off.

as for the selector in the dash, yes you can change the lights in there and it is easy if you know how to solder things.

I solder in my sleep. Just wasn't sure if I should waste time on this, you know rip out the cluster and this not be the problem. I've have to try I guess. Thanx

Yeah, I thought I read that a while back. Did you need to do any kind of re-wiring or does the voltage keep ok for small LED's? How's the light-up? Good, clearer?

The current requires is cut so much you only need one power source (cluster has a left and right power source in bug plugs).

The only reqireing i did was in each little bulb housing (such a pain but keeps cluster untouched). Since it was 12volts i did need to use a resistor to drop it to 2.2 volts (about 20mA) across the lamp. Those pics should be in that same post.

The pic is me hotwireing the cluster with a 12volt source on one side, dont have a clock but it is just as bright. One of these days i will take a pic with it at full brightness. The good thing is that since i did red LEDs it doesnt hurt to look at them or the color doesnt fade to pink. Also that picture is on 1/30 shutter speed i believe, near dim daylight.

anything less than 130 mcd will be to dim to see and if you do 3000 like some people you will blind your self. I think i did 470 ohm resistors with 130 mcd if you couldnt tell.

hey the little box like opening to the bottom of the gear shifter contains one bolt. What happens after I loosen this. I can't see anything that this would make me acceable to the inards of under the trans to change a bulb.

then pull out that front part. You may have a few more bolts holding it in on the front of that section. Been a while since i have done this so enjoy
