Default cuatrocoop, or others with internal engine experience on the V6

Is there any reason why a 96 Cabriolet (V6 code AFC) crank wouldn't be interchangeable with crank from a 98 A4 V6 30valve, looks identical, different part number. All the bearings measurements are identical to the 1-2 thousandths. Do you also know anything about the casting of the newer piston rods?? Have you seen the casting?

Default I've only seen the 12v stuff...

The only reason I can think of for a PN change (the 2.8's all have the same 86.4mm stroke) would be going from a forged to cast or cast to forged.

Oh, one other difference could be in the counterweights, but the rods and pistons should be the same weight, or very close?

To be honest, any VAG crank I've seen looks forged. Only the newer ones started to go with a cast crank on certain applications. The 30v came out when they had just started to switch from a forged crank to a cast crank, not sure if they switched the V6 over too (like the 1.8t's except the 225hp version) or not.

Maybe UrS4 knows for certain? Or could point you to someone more in the know WRT the 30v cranks?

Default I would like to know this as well

From a quick look at the measurements I can see no reason why the 30v and 12v crank and rods are completly interchangeable. I do know the rods on the 30V are much stronger than on the 12v. As S4 and 2.8 30V have the same part number for the con rods. I discussed this with Lloyd at TDL when I built my engine 2 years ago and 30V rods were an option I considered. What I would really like to know if anyone can check the bearing measurements in can a 3.0 crank physically fit in a 2.8L block.
