Steering pump is haunted!!!!
AT about 1200-1400 rpms my Steering pump has a medium to high pitch moaning squeal like a loose fan belt. The belt is not loose. I was thinking of rebuilding the pump myself but have heard horror stories about that. I have an 88 80Q Yeah! one of the rare ones. I think that year they used a Vickers pump before switching to ZF. Any Ideas. Fluid leaks a little but does it when the res. is full too. Thanks for helping me exorcise the demon from my pump.

yea i get that too, i think mine was from when i was low on fluid and left it like that for a while.
then after adding the power steering fluid it stayed the same due to the minor "damage". i dont know what to do about it except change the pump, but when the car is cold it does it for the first turn or so, then its fine.

it is constant. It was fine until I changed the timing belt and all the belts came off. After that it has been loud and constant. This happened on my VW Quantum 5cyl too. Is there a bearing inside? I put my big screwdriver to the pump casing and put my ear to it and it didn't sound too smooth. Can it be repaired or should I replace?
