Power steering pump belt (I think it's called the VBelt?) question...

Default Power steering pump belt (I think it's called the VBelt?) question...

I've noticed a few cracks in the belt that spins the PS pump, alternator, etc. How hard is it to remove the belt completely? I've used the tensioner to slide the belt off the PS pulley before, but I wasn't sure if the rest of the belt simply slid off. Do I have to remove any brackets?

Default No, tensioner only, 10 minute job....oh wait....

I don't remember now if you have to remove some plastic covers off the front of the engine, but still, its super easy!

Default ya, plastic belt covers off (as A_CQ said) and then use a prybar underneath the tensioner...

you need to pull-up (so clockwise direction) in order to release tension. Getting it off is pretty easy, as if the belt is at all worn/loose it practically falls off once the tensioner is disengaged. Gettin the new (tight) belt back on -by yourself- properly is a bit tricker...easiest if you have a helper to just hold up on the bar.

Default pry bar? Just use 8 or 10mm hex in its original slot for releasing the tension

No risk of braking something. When putting new one on, put it everywhere besides the PS pulley, then release yension on the tensioner and pull it over the PS pulley.

Default sorry, my mistake. now that I remember ya, i used an 1/2 impact socket on the end of my flex handle

but at 8:00 all that came to mind was 'prybar' heheh =S

I know how to use the tensioner... I've replaced the PS pulley before.
