Car will not start... pulled codes... baffled...
Okay...
Car: 1990 80 4 cylinder will not start. Was warming it up the other morning and after runing for 3 or 4 minutes it just died and has not started since. Turns over just fine and fires up, but dies after 2-3 seconds.
Codes: 2312 - Cooland temp sensor. This was the only code that came out before all 0's (tried it twice to make sure).
Baffled: Why would a coolant sensor keep the car from starting?
Any input appreciated

Faulty sensor
It will make the ECU think the car is either really hot or really cold, therefore adjusting the mixture to compensate. A new coolant sensor should hopefully remedy this problem.

Im unsure, hopefully somebody else...
May be able to help. Its not the one on the radiator, that controls the radiator fans. IIRC, there are 2-3 coolant sensors on the 4cyl. The sensor *may* have a plug WITH metal clip on it. It also may be the same sensor the 4000 quattro uses.

the one at the back of the block is for the computer
the one on the radiator is for the fan/gauge. Try ohming it out, I believe it should be between 200-300 at temp. I could be off with my numbers and I don't have my bentley handy.
