shock bolt

Default shock bolt

I am just curious, but should I be able to turn the bolt in the engine compartment for my front shocks or should it be buried. Could this have been causing the clunking in my front end?

Default Which bolts? The big 3 that hold the upper plate in? Or the little nuts that hold the shock...

to the plate? In either case, they should be rather tight, I forget the actual spec.

its the big bolt at the top of the shock that holds the top of the shock to the car. the bolt head is the size of a wheel lug. there is only one nut for each shock that is loose. i was able to get like a turn and a half on these bolts. i cant imagine that is cose to spec

Default Eh? There is one nut that holds the bushing to the shock shaft...

the 2 nuts that hold teh bushing plate to the upper mount and the 3 bolts that hold the upper plate (the one with the control arms attached) to the car. Which one was loose?

I am no expert on these matters, all i know is that at the top of the shock tower, there is one nut that is attached to the top of the shock which presses into the car frame in the engine compartment, on both sides of the motor. i used the lug wrench that comes in a MY2001.5 in the trunk. The shocks are bilsteins...the nut was loose and i tightened it a turn and a half each.

The lug wrench is 17mm. So, it's none of the above.
