Head gasket repairs?

Hi guys, I currently have an 87 4000CS(non quattro) and have begun seeing white smoke from the exhaust when the engine heats up. Water temp is only slightly above the middle, and it only starts to smoke after it gets warmed up. The engine still runs strong even when smoking. Has anyone experienced this? I'm afraid its the head gasket, any other causes or does anyone have a guess on how much a head gasket repair could be? This is my 6th Audi(4th 4K) and first time I've had this problem. Any help is appreciated.

Are you losing coolant? If you want to get it checked, have a shop pressurize your cooling system.
