Default Bought First Audi 86 gtcoupe

Hey everyone, new poster, I bought a 86 gtcoupe today and its awesome! I just having a problem with really fast blinking, and the mph or the miles on the car wont show up on the digital dash... Does anyone know how much this might cost if I take it to a dealership (also need to get a tune up and and alignment) but if I can fix it myself could save me a lot of money, any ideas? love this car am glad to be a owner..

Thanks
Mike

Default The really fast blinking is probably a burned out bulb. As for the dash...

I'm not really sure, as I've never owned one. I've heard they can be a real nightmare if they start going bad, though. MikTip or Dwight V would be the guys to ask about that.

Default Not me, I wouldn't own a digital dash.

Can't stand the darn things.
But I can tell you the quick blinking is either a bad bulb or poor connection in the socket.

Default OK, OK, I am having the same problem so we can help eachother out.

1986 Coupe GT commemerative edition, I believe you have the same thing.
Well I got my car real cheap. I found out why it did not run, fixed it, Found that non of the dash light up except for warning light, and I got a good temporary fix for that one.
Well today I found that the center screen does not light, which contains MPH and odometer. Well, the bentley maual says it is the MPH sender near the left inner CV joint or one other thing that I can not recall at the moment. Checking the sender invovles hooking up a voltometer to the dash and rolling the car to see if the volts pulse. However, I have a feeling that it is something else.
I did not have time to fix my problem but I will be home for thanksgiving and I will definitely have it fixed by then so either I can help you or vice versa. Cool?

Can the lights be fixed if two rpm notches are burnt out?

I have a 87.5 CGT, also with the digidash. You probably have a burnt out bulb/s. You can find the halogen bulbs at pep boys for about $10 each, or the deal for $21 each.

If the sender is bad you speedo reads 0 all the time, but does you speedo light up and read 0 at all? I have a Digi dash also, but i bought one at a salvage yard for 75 bucks, and havent had any trouble out of mine, but if i can find it, there is a place that remanufactures them, dont know about price, but my email was like"gpapenfuss" or soemthing, ill try to find it for you, kinda curious myself, also, the sensor may not be bad, i noticed sometimes if i wash my engine somehow water gets to the sensor and my speedo stops working till it dries out, same as for a huge downpour.is your speedo lighting up at all?
