Default Doing Installs by yourself........ [more]

I was just wondering, for those of you who have modded cars, did you do any mods by yourself and if so, was it hard/easy or what? I'm interested in having my own 2NR shop, so I'm gonna try and do all my own installs. Any recommendations?

I'm thinking of doing the exhaust by myself and other things that aren't as big... like BPV, Intake, and so on...

Default Serious work is tough. Intake, BV, tint, plugs, XM, tips, ecodes, de-badge service, grilles, S-Line

all seem do-able. Exhaust is not diy.

Default No offense, but I wouldn't want a 16 year old with no mechanical experience working on my ride.

You need to look into getting some good insurance too, because if something happens to a car that you installed a part on, chances are, the customer is going to come back and bitch at you, or worse. When I was hooking up my civic si, I took it to a certified honda mechanic, and the easier stuff (intake, exhaust, etc..), I did myself.

Default Having your own 2NR shops gonna require a lot of experience... I have one, but i have 3 employees...

They work on all the cars, and you do have to have good insurance, because you do something wrong, and it goes bad on a car... your screwed... Take it from me, its not as easy as it sounds, do some research its all possible, but if your only 16 and dont know too much about DIY mods, its gonna take a lot of training, time, and research... It is possible though, if you go through with it, good luck!

Default I'm thinking of starting in my barn, and doing friends and acquaintances installs and... [more]

selling parts, "out of my trunk". I know it's hard work and I've done plenty of research on installs and things like that, the truth is, that not too many people actually get exhausts. Most get simple stuff which they pay to get installed. I know it's hard and that I need insurance, but again I think I'm only going to start w/ friends and acquaintances and then move on to a real one when I'm older possibly.

And I do have experience working on cars, I'm just wondering about the Audi, and I've never worked on German Cars, just Japanese....

Default I did a Civic Si... a few, currently doing my friends w/ him, get Mike Wagner's input... =) (more)

I figure if Mike trusts me to hang around his shop and to do stuff, than I'm not that bad, plus I worked on a Civic w/ my friend that had over 387hp at the wheels, so I'm not completely inexperienced, read another response above too...

Default Get the right tools. Take your time and do it right.

Expect come-backs and lots of trouble shooting. People with German cars have higher expectations and the cars are more complex than Hondas.

Default Word! :-) Yeah i agree with april, we did imports at first, german cars are much much different and

the customers are a whole different class... Imports aren't too bad, exhausts on imports are fairly easy as well, most of them buy catbacks that are direct bolt on... lots of stuff out for imports, if your doing friends and stuff, yeah i guess you gotta point, dont have to worry too much about insurance, just make sure they wont hate you if by chance you mess something up :-) Good luck!
