1.8T folks: Are there any engine changes between B5 & B6 for you?

Specifically, did the downpipe/cat move or is it still in the front passenger side like B5's? Discuss

Yes, there are several changes and none good.....

The pistons are cast and not forged. The fuel delivery system is not the same. The clutch, pressure plate and flywheel are not exactly the same. This motor requires more mods and produces less horse power then the previous generation 1.8t. When chipped the clutch assembly chatters under load. But the cat is still at the same spot and I don't know about the down pipe.

Where did you get your information on the pistons being cast? What is your engine code?

I'm curious - this is something very new to me. I have the Audi engineering white paper on the 170hp 1.8T and it describes the differences in the engine to make it ULEV but it doesn't mention this. Of course the paper is older than 03. I'd like to get confirmation on this as this would make the A4 1.8t the ONLY 1.8T with cast pistons.

power figures?

In addition to wanting to know about the forged / cast piston question, I'm curious...what did the "old" 170 hp 1.8Ts make, and what are the "new" 170 hp 1.8ts making? Do we have evidence suggesting the differences are anything other than the usual variations between specific engines tested? Is there official VAG acknowledgement of the alleged power differences, or not?

specifically, what "more mods" are needed to reach which levels of power?
