Swap XM for Sirius in Infotainment Pkg?
My dealer can get their hands on the Avant I want, but all the Infotainment ones seem to have Xm instead of Sirius. My understanding is that the tuner itself is installed at the port, so it should be a matter of getting the right part and swapping out the tuner.
Sound right?
Any answers would be greatly appreciated; I am hoping to buy this weekend.
Thanks!
Sirius is a couple bucks more expensive than Sirius (~$12.00 per month), but offers 100% of it's music channels commercial free.
I have been a Sirius subscriber for ~1yr and am very happy. Sirius has gotten a bad rap for poor audio quality and poor coverage. Most of these comparisons I've seen were done before Sirius was in full scale nationwide rollout against for fully rolled out XM. Some of the camparos were just plain unfair. Sirius initially had some quality issues, but updated their compression codecs and all is good now.
I think either way you go (xm or sirius) it will be a good choice. Once you have Sat radio you will wonder how you went without it all these years.
Thanks to everyone for your answers on the XM/Sirius post from last week. Looks like the way '04 cars are showing up at dealers in Calif is that, since all 04s have sat radio prep, cars with Bose show up with the Infotainment Bose/XM package (option code RXM) and then there's a Delete XM Tuner credit for $350 on the window sticker. You then have to buy the tuner of your choice from your friends in Parts for $350: Sirius and XM tuners (but not the monthly) cost the same. Wonder what Clair is getting for them?
So if you have a dealer looking on Venturi for the 04 Audi of your dreams, have them look for RXM and not RSR (Infotainment/Sirius), at least not on California cars, since they don't exactly exist. It actually makes some sense and lets consumers decide instead of the guys at the port or dealer.
I ended up getting an 03 allroad that is fantastic and I highly recommend that those of you shopping for loaded A4 3.0 Avants also take a look at an 03 allroad. There are excellent deals to be had out there and if you are in Southern Calif I can get you in touch with the folks I got mine from.
Thanks again everyone and more on the sat issue in a moment.
