I want to start waxing my this weekend car but what wax should i use? Also, do I need to be careful about getting the wax on any of the plastics or lowers?

And what the hell is a clay bar?

Ok....so Im assuming you're a noob at detailing your car. So I'll start from the beginning. Ill go thru a simple detail job for your paint. Clay Bar is to get rid of fall out on your paint that cant be rid by just normal washing. It leaves your paint nice and smooth. You can get Mothers Claybar for about 15 bucks at your normal auto parts store. Heres how you clay bar...really simple. Wash your car first with DAWN dishwashing detergent to get rid of old wax. Leave your car wet( Do not wash when it is hot or sunny outside) Assuming that the ClayBar kit came with Instant detailer...spray a liberal amount on the paint and then just rub the claybay on your paint with a back and forth motion. Do this till you dont feel anymore resistance. FOld the claybar constantly to insure you wont scratch the paint.

Now about waxing. If you're just going to the local auto parts store like Kragens, Assuming that your paint is in REALLY GOOD condition....just get a "POLISH" and a "WAX"...not a "CLEANER WAX"...theres a difference. If your car has a bunch of swirls and imperfections...you need to do a 3 step system.1)Cleaner Wax 2) Polish or Glaze 3) Carnauba wax. Just follow the simple directions on the bottle and you are set.

Now....I suggest you do things the right way and get some QUALITY products such as Microfiber towels so you wont scratch your paint. Terry Cltoh just wont do. Now...if you dont want ot shop online and you just want to go to Kragens....you can get their Diaper clothes to take of wax. Do not get Terry cloth.

What I Use..... Klasse ALL-In-One then Klasse Sealant Glaze then a coat of P21S Carnauba wax. The result.....

It works extremely well and has a very long life of protection. I would have several suggestions if you are interested, it is mail order but does arrive quickly. If you have a dark car, watch out for abrasive "cleaning" wax like Nu_finish, although that stuff has it's place. One-step waxes include, Meguires, Mothers and if you have a dark car, Eagle 1 NanoWax is the hot ticket. (free after rebate) After waxing, only wash by hand or powerwash, no machine drive-thru wash. Use lots of soap and water. No dishsoap except when used for stripping BEFORE a fresh wax. Zip-Wax is great Wash&amp;Wax, use it. Use old terry towels, wipe dry, blot on the hood. Use towels once and wash seperately. Go buy new towels for the bath and use your oldest ones on the car. I do not like microfiber or shammy. I use Meguire's HIGH_TECH #26, no abrasives. Glaze is cool if you do not use a abrasive wax after. Dawn wash&gt;Mother's Glaze&gt;Meguire's #26&gt;ZipWax Wash &amp; Wax.

 

Zaino is the worst beginner wax/polish system you could possibly recommend
