Default Total Noob Question About my GIAC chip..pls help..

I just purchased a GIAC chip w/ flashloader (awesome by the way). I live in Denver, where practically speaking, the highest octane available is 91. I recently found a place that sells 93. On GIAC's website, the application guide says that the program is "91-93 octane." I am to interpret then that should i fill with 93, I would get even more of a HP gain?

TIA

Default Not exactly

the gas you can run with the lowest octane rating will net the most power.....the extra octane is only necessary if you car is pulling out timing or pinging(detonation).running higher octane will give you an extra margin of safety and allow you to run higher boost levels.the reason 90+% of gas stations in Colorado only have 91 is because any higher is not necessary at our altitude.lower octane gas is actually easier to ignite.

Default Running 93 is not NEEDED but will give you some great power for little $$$...

Indeed, the ecu will retard timing and decrease boost to prevent our cars from pinging on 91 octane, but the result is a loss of as much as 20-30hp on a dyno. Increasing octane on the 1.8T has even more dramatic results than on a NA car such as the BMW which has posted 6% or approximately 15hp losses running less than 93 octane.

Now this is just the benefits of added octane on a stock A4 1.8T. Add to that a chipped A4 and the resutls should be much greater. I would even recommend trying out some toluene to run it at a 98 octane mix and you'll see the results are phenominal adding as much as 40hp on a heavily modded 1.8t car programmed for 93 octane. cheers! mike

Default Love thenew chip. I purchased the Pump program, and the stock..(m)

I really have no need for the valet or theft programs, as my car is almost never out of sight, or I drive another car to a sketchy area. The racing program is also of little use, as these are my only mods for the time being. As time progresses I may add more.

As far as the chip goes, so far, so good. I LOVE the extra power, as well as the ability to leave the 325 in the dust. Hell, its nice not being beaten by a new beetle! This is how the car should come from the facory.
