SH!T HAPPENS... Good news and some bad...
While driving spiritedly on a nice road, a problem occurred with the car. The red battery light came on and I lost my power steering (you need one on this car, believe me). Open the hood, and hold and behold the serpentine belt that drive the AC compressor, power steering and the alternator is just sitting there, not even thorn or worn out, just sitting there, popped right out, WTF? As anyone heard of such a thing? Anyway since I'm far from home I decide to call Audi's road side assistance, no problem, the platform truck is there in about 45 minutes. Trip home with the car went find although at a much slower pace. I'll most likely drive it to the dealer's tomorrow morning. I should have enough juice in the battery to get me there.
Now the good news.
Prior to to the mishap, I did some more testing, but this time I used my Hoosiers instead on my S03s. Before I go on and give you some times, I will explain to you that I think my results were not because the Hoosiers are stickier, which they were not, they are dead and my rear end went easily into snap oversteer under hard launches, I did get rear wheel spin up. I did lower my air pressure in an attempt to lower my times by getting more grip but ultimately I still got some, I ran out of time to continue the experiment with the tire pressure. Needless to say I will have to work on that one of these days. I think the reason I got better times is the fact that my S03s are in the following size, 235/40/17 and my Hoosiers are in the following size, 225/45/17. There is a big difference in rolling diameter between the two and although the S03s should accelerate faster (smaller diameter) the Hoosiers permit me to easily reach 60 MPH in second gear, not so easy with the S03s. Also there might be a rotational mass thing in there too the Hoosiers on the SSRs are a lot lighter. One more thing I did these test with the G-Tech Pro and maybe sometime soon I might go back to the track to reconfirm these numbers, however from my past testing I'm very confident in the G-Tech Pro numbers. Actually I forgot to tell you I did a very high speed run to test out the top and the darn car is so fast that it exceeded the speedometer range, I will have to borrow a portage GPS to get an accurate reading.
Test # 1. High speed run.
The needle settle beyond the 260 KPH (162 MPH) indication and stayed there with the RPM still increasing in 6th gear. I gave up at 5800 RPM, still far from the red line. This was done with the S03s, so some speedometer error due to the smaller diameter tires as to be present. I need a portable GPS!
Test # 2. 0 to 60 mph runs.
After lowering the Hoosiers pressure, the best I got was 5.03 seconds. All other runs were below the 5.40 second mark.
Test # 3. Quarter mile runs.
Best run was a 13.72 seconds at 104 MPH. All others were below the 14 second mark.
Well I guess tomorrow morning the Audi will take a trip to the dealers.
It gives the rest of us a goal! Something to shoot for!
