you should really do it when the manual says
the oil that comes in the car is believed by many to be a factory wear in oil... let it run its intended course and then change it at the prescribed interval. Then change the oil & filter at 5K intervals from there on out.

beginning to think this is a wives tail since it hasn't been qunatified ever..
this rumor has been around since the B5 days.
Close aquaintance is good friends w/ someone in the service dept and he says there's nothing special to the oil.
Take it for what it's worth. I've heard more "insiders" say there's nothing special than the other way around.

I didnt say it was in fact wear in oil....
Either way I wouldnt dick around with the first oil change... then again I'm not the sort that skips oil changes, ever. Castrol 5w40 Synth + oem filter @ 4K interval = happy phil all year round.
