More on TDI in NY
Here`s what I learned
1. Calif, NY and CT 8among other states)adhere to the CARB requirements which limit the tailpipe exhaust products. Current diesels do not violate those requirements.
2. However -- CARB requirements prevent a vehicle from being sold that requires a replaceable element to maintin low emissions. In this case it is the urea cleanser that keeps the blue-tec and TDI engines so clean -- replaceable at 100k miles.
3. So you can not register a new diesel passenger vehicle in NY or CT. BUt you can in NJ. Alternatively you can register a pre-owned diesel in NY.
4. So unless something changes in NY and it stops adhereing to CARB requirements then we new yawkers will either have to reg in NJ or buy used. Kind of a bummer...
