[xpost] my (on going) quest to solve brake heating problem...
We'll see how it does this wkend at Summit Pt. ;-)
If your pedal pressure remains the same, but you're lacking the grab you need to get the car slowed down, then your pads/rotors are over heating. Your cheapest solution is to run a more aggressive pad. The more aggressive pad (Pagid Blacks, Hawk HPSs, or even all-out track pads) can withstand higher temperatures while still providing effective braking. Otherwise, you'll need to do a cheap upgrade to bigger rotors (like 3.0 rotors).
If your pedal goes to the floor, then you're over heating your fluid. That's easy. Flush out the OEM stuff and throw in a higher temperature fluid.
I ran my stock 3.0 brakes (well, I ran better pads), for three track events. Sure, the 3.0 brakes are bigger than the 1.8Ts, but they held up decently well for those three events. I've since outgrown that and have upgraded to B5 S4 front brakes (slightly larger rotor, dual-piston caliper) with aggressive street pads for the street and dedicated track pads for the track as well as aggressive street pads in the back, along with SS lines, and Motul 600 fluid. The upgrade was cheap ($350). If you're going to continue tracking your car, you may want to consider making a wise investment in a better brake solution.
But as others have said, upgrade the cheaper componenents first to see if that takes care of your problem. Pads are your biggest bang for the buck.
