Default About to pull the trigger and looking for advice.

I currently own a A4 3.0 Black, sport package, 6 spd, the works. I have been waiting to pull the trigger on a new S4 and after test driving for the 3rd time I am ready. My question to all of you is do I take the great discounts that are currently available on a remaining 04 or hold out and pay the extra for an 05? The only option available on the 05 that I can see is the carbon fibre trim which I do like, although I have not seen it. Any new colors available mean nothing as I am confident that I am going back to silver as I had on my TT and A6. I have always been cautious about buying a car the first year it comes out assuming any issues would be corrected the following year. I would really appreciate any feedback you guys could provide to help put me at ease. Thanks in advance and looking forward to sitting in those Recaro's soon.

Default I happen to have purchased tonight.

And I got an '05 for $1,000 under MSRP. I DID buy off the lot (would have taken NAV if I ordered) but I have to believe you can get an '05 at a reasonable price in the near future. Of course, you may be able to get an '04 for a MUCH more reasonable price in the VERY near future.

Good luck.

Default Just make sure the build date on the 04 is mid-year 04 and you should be fine...

as far as early build issues are concerned.

I think you can probably get a pretty good deal going on the 04's on the lot. Dealerships don't like cars on the books.

If you can manage, I'd work the dealer. Go in and get excited, but then remove yourself and tell them you need to think long and hard about it. If you can manage, work them over the period of a week and see if they can come down some more.

Trouble is, especially after the 3rd test drive, your going to probably want to get in one pretty damn quick. And I can't blame you!!! The carbon fibre trim is pretty slick looking, but not available if you want the alcantara seats. In which case, an 04 might be the better deal.

good luck! Nothing beats the feeling like driving off the lot in that bay boy! Also...you thinking of going avant? :-p

GOOD advice. I actually took my second test drive tonight and told the salesman I wanted to have dinner with my wife and talk it over. I told him I'd e-mail him later with my decision. I e-mailed him my bottom line and they took it. Although, frankly, I wish I'd have even undercut that amount. Since I got $1,000 under I'm wondering if I could have gotten $1,500 . . . $2,000 . . . but you know what - I'm glad they took it. I wanted the car and I wanted it as soon as possible.

I guess if I had any advice, it would be to figure out what your breaking point is in terms of price and go get 'em. I felt a little more compelled to jump given the make-up of my vehicle (Avant + 6MT) but these folks are just like the Nissan dealer down the street with the exception of a smaller volume. They have to make a little more on each car than the Nissan dealer - but, ultimately, they want the same result - to move vehicles.

Default Good advice from Mächtig. How long are you going to keep it?

If you might sell it within 4 years, resale is a concern (2005 v. 2004).

For a $50K car you're likely to see $5K difference in resale price year-over-year for the first 3 years or so. Just check out a similarly priced car on Edmunds.

Based on my past experience, if you're leasing, the '05 might even come in at a lower monthly payment. Even if your not leasing, run the leasing rates. The money factor and residuals will give you some insight into the resale picture.

Sorry for my ignorance . What are "early build" issues ? I'm looking at purchasing an 04 A6 Avant
Dolphin/Ebony, loaded MSRP $45,320 minus dealer incentive and Audi loyalty = $40,320 . I figure this price is as low as it will get. Any thoughts ? Thanks !
