you once owned both the German Capri and Fiesta. In the 70's to early 80's I had 4 Capri's(1974, 1976, 2 1977 Ghia's...all V6's) Also a 1980 Fiesta Ghia and 1988 Merkur Scorpio.

They were all German, out of Ford's Cologne factory. That was when Ford actually had something going on against the imports.

After Ford got out of it, I moved onto a few VW's and Audi's...

Default I also had a Scorpio. Fortunately I leased.

Resale value of that car plummeted faster than any car I ever saw. Especially since Ford stopped importing the car. BUT the good thing was that Ford had guarenteed that the resale value would not drop lower than that of a Mercedes 190( on a percentage basis) IF you traded in on another Ford/Lincoln Mercury product. They also sent me a voucher of $1000 toward the purchase of another Ford product in the next year. So I got out of the lease early because of the residual of the Mercedes 190 and applied the $1000 to a cap reduction on an SHO Taurus. That car along with an Eagle Vision TSI, that also really took a nose dive in residual value, convinced me that leasing is the way to go. Plus there are other business advantages.

Yeh, they withdrew after only 2 years of selling it(1988, 1989). It sold for years after in Europe though...as the Granada.

One thing I give Ford credit for is they were the first ones to create a new luxury division. Acura and then Lexus followed shortly after. Ford blew it on the marketing and packaging, while look at what Acura and Lexus have done. But it was Ford's idea, they pioneered it...the Merkur division

Default I had a Fiesta "s" with koni's, springs and upgraded 12" wheels.

with no smog, a big carb and an Ansa exhaust I could easily embarass the Camaros of the day. It was a wanna be GTi.
