stock gearbox strength

As i have done a few mods to my audi a4 1.8T qtr and i have done just over 100,000 kms my clutch is slowly going and i was keen to get me a heavy duty clutch when it finally packs up... BUT i have been told that stock audi clutches are quite week on purpose, so you dont blow your gear box if you have to much power...
If i got a heavy duty clutch, are the chances of me blowing my gear box pretty good? or is the stock audi gear box strong enough to handle a bit of power and a heavy duty clutch??
If anyone could give me some advice on which way i should go it would be much appreciated!
