TROUBLE WITH MY HEATED SEATS' KNOBS' LIGHTING

TROUBLE WITH MY HEATED SEATS' *****' LIGHTING
My new B7 S4 handbook says that the ***** for my heated seats are supposed to light up, when in use, regardless of the main lights being off. My dealer says no..they will not light unless the cars lighting system is turned on...any one else have this same problem ?? If so, have you solved it ?, and how did you do that ? Thanks for the help.
