Rough idle 06 A4 2.0T Q tipronic
My 06 2.0T with tiptronic seems to idle roughly when in D or S. If I put it in N, it smooths right out. The idle speed is 900rpm whether in D or N. The idle never moves, it is rock solid. When stopped for light, for example, it feels as if the car is chafing to go and the drivetrain vibrates or shakes a little. I've had other cars do this but with them when I would put the shift lever in N they would smooth out, but also the idle rpm would increase slighlty (like maybe 50 or 100 rpm). Is the condition I'm sensing normal, maybe a part of the sports sedan thing, and is 900 rpm the normal idle speed (I couldn't find anything on this in the owners manual). Thanks for any input, I'm really sensing anything this baby does!

Mine does the same thing.....I have had a few people say how rough it feels when we are stopped at a stop light. I planned on asking the dealership when I go in for maintenance. But hopefully someone here can give us some answers.

I just picked up my A4 and complained to the dealer of the rough idle. The salesman tried another A4 on the lot and it was very smooth. The mechanics supposedly check it for moisture, etc., but it didn't improve. They suggested that a programming fix was forthcoming that might fix the vibration problem.

No, it is different, although I know what that is. My problem is that once stopped (like at a traffic light) with the tranny in D or S and your foot on the brake there is a vibration or straining that comes through the steering wheel and actually the whole car. Manually shifting into N eases it somewhat, but it still is not a smooth or non-invasive idle like an Acura or such.

...but, better bring it back to the dealership service for diag. Same as my issue, i'll bring my car back for an un-schedule service.

I had my 06 A4 2.0T w/Tip to the dealer yesterday and they said the vibration I was feeling (both while at idle in D and at highway speed) is "normal". I must say it is vey slight at highway speed, not really a shimmy or anything. They said that "this new model" (B7) has very hard engine mounts and that until they "wear-in" there will be noticeable vibration through the drivetrain. That doesn't make me all warm and fuzy feeling, but I will live with it for now, my main concern being it is something that if left un-checked would have been thrown back at me when the lease is up in 23 1/2 months.
