Default More cars with similar looks to A4 B7 !!!

I remember reading the discussion on how Honda has stolen some design ideas for the tail lights from Audi.

I was looking at the commercial of the new Passat Variant and it looks very identical to A4 Avant from the front! Now because VW owns Audi, does it mean that it can dilute the premium status received by Audi over the years by accomodating into VW models? It is justified?

Default Yeah I seen the new Civic

Thumbs down big time. Though you could argue that Audi is setting the standard for styling perhaps.

let's see, now that would be the Honda Civic that has copied the A4's rear, and some car made in China that you would never ever want to get into an accident has copied the front end.

Regardless, I find all VWs looking too Japanese now and I'm not the only one that is complaining about this. VW has lost it's own uniqueness.

Default I would say that Passat Variant looks closer to A4 than the Honda Civic

But, yeah! true, VW does not have the uniqueness anymore

Default Since the Passat and A4 have shared platforms...

I've always assumed the A4 was the upscale Passat, just as the A3 was the upscale Jetta\Golf.

I don't think it detracts from the premium status, it's just part of the shift in styling in the auto industry.

Default New Passat doesn't share platforms with the A4 any longer...

Passat uses an overgrown Golf/Jetta Platform now.
They also no longer share the V6 engines because of the now transverse layout. They are able to make use of the 2.0t though, similar to the J/G.

Default Ford Fusion - A Fusion of G35 and Jetta?

Has anyone noticed how similar the front end on both the G35 and Fusion are? The rest of the Fusion body reminds me of the new Jetta.

Have you seen the grille on the new Ford Explorer? There's an ad for it that keeps appearing on the Yahoo.com homepage. The grille looks like a rip-off current generatin Audi "new face." Looks crappy on the Ford of course, I love my 06 A4's front end, looks balanced and strong (better on A4 than on A6) - keep trying Ameri-trash!!!

Default The last Passat was developed from the A4 B5 platform. No Passat built on A4 B6.more.

The B5 Audi A4 built from '94 to '01 is an Audi design. So in fact, the B5 Passat was a "VW-ized" Audi. NOT the other way around, as in "Audi A4's are just over-priced VW Passats", etc.

Default I am talking about preception as opposed to reality

I know they no longer share platforms, but since the A4 and Passat used to be siblings, I think the general population will continue to see them that way. Most people don't keep track of what cars share platforms. I think they just assume since it happens so much...

Toyota with Lexus
Honda and Acura
Nissan and Infiniti
VW and Audi

Etc etc etc...

I don't think the styling carrying across related brands hurts at all. And people 'copying' Audi only strengthens the direction the VAG group was taking styling. Overall it's good for the company.

Now for the owner that liked the distinct 'VAG' look, it kind of sucks...
