Hey B7 guys...need some help for one of my buddies (advice needed)
His engine lost power suddenly about two weeks back, and brought it to the dealership. The techs say that his piston compression ring in one of the cylinders wasn't holding compression, and may have caused some damage to the inner wall of the cylinder. They are saying he needs a new block (basically a new motor).
So at this point, he's past the powertrain warranty and regular warranty by about 10K miles, and AoA decided to deny any warranty work. However, he's only had the car for about 1 year (he drives a lot).
What advice, if any, do you guys have for my friend? He's bummed, because he doesn't drive the car hard AT ALL...it's an A4 2.0T tiptronic, and his wife does most of the driving with it. I doubt she goes WOT all the time.
Do you guys know if there's a possibility he can take the damaged motor to an aftermarket tuner and have the cylinders bored out and repaired rather than replacing the whole motor? If he had to replace the motor, do you guys know of any good sources? Dealer was quoting close to $10k for the repair/replacement.
Also, have you B7er's had any issues similar to this? Any help appreciated. Just trying to help out my buddy. The situation really sucks for him right now. Thanks guys.
I doubt AoA will help on a car that's been driven that much. that's 164 miles per day every day of the year. Wow.
Let us know how it turns out.
