A6 2.8 yellow goop while changing the oil
I live in MN. I am telling this because the problem I am going to discuss might have some relationship with cold weather or may be not.
Any way, today i went to get my car's oil change and tech showed me the some yellow goop in the engine oil and asked me to get the flush the engine as this is some oil residue. By the way, I already noticed that yellow goop or yogurt thingy months ago but didn't know what to do.
Also, car was consuming oil and burning it. smoke was many times in my car. two q in three months may be.
So I let the tech flush the engine, what he did was by simply putting some fluid in the engine and drained out after 10 min of idle engine.
Now, I want to know the reason of yellow goop. I did some google and came up with a statement from one guy. I need help on that, what he is trying to say. Please help me on this.
" There is one other possible cause for this yellow goop : a blocked scavenger hose. Most engines have a hose which comes off the cam cover and returns to the engine block somewhere via a vacuum line. This is the scavenger hose which scavenges oil vapour and gasses that build up in the cam cover. If it's blocked you can end up with a buildup of condensation inside the cam cover, which can manifest itself as the yellow goop inside the filler cap."
No, I drive it only in the city. I warm up the car before I drive it though
Yeah suction pump could be the culprit. I guess it has never been changed. How do I change it?
The short drives are not good for the car. You should replace the suction pump (tech articles) and as much of the breather system as possible. Also, your is not buring oil, it's leaking oil. Find and fix the leaks.
Being an MN driver myself, my guess is that it is caused by short trips in the winter months. If the engine doesn't warm up completely, it can't burn off excess moiture, which then condensates as it cools and mixes with the oil the next time you start the engine.
If you're in the MPLS area, take it over to Imola Motorsports in Golden Valley, they'll take good care of you.

IIRC, the problem stems from short trips in very cold weather where a PCV-system-related diaphragm becomes stuck/frozen resulting in the yogurt mess you are in now. Since just about all the D2 members have abandoned, you may ask around at the other D2 forum which is verboten to mention here. suction pump was working as i tested it. I guess, I should replace the breather hose tubes as well along with the gaskets.
What do you guys suggest?
