Default Combi valve & Secondary air injection

2.8L engine. Mechanic says my check engine light is caused by combi valve and seconday air injection to low. Id like to do some of the work myself. Whats all involved in this project?

On a side note - Do you think Id have luck posting in the A4 forum also?

I have not had to replace any combi valves, I usually get an incorrect flow now and then, clear the code, and it stays away for a wile...

Ive cleared the fault a few times already and always seems to come back. Guess Im going to bite the bullet and just replace this thing. Doesnt seem to be a lot of info out there on these things?

gotcha. Do you have the Bentley manual? I haven't even looked up the procedure.

I dont have the manual. Sounds like the combi valve is close to the firewall? Ive also done some searching and people are saying there is a right and a left?

Correct. The Combi valves are at the rear of each of the cylinder heads, they look like small bright metal cans. Right and left Combi valves are different.

Grapeking,
I know you're not a mind reader but when the mechanic writes on your ticket "needs replace of combi valve - secondary air flow to low". Does that mean I need to replace both?

I wouldn't go that way. First I'd check the "accordion" tube that runs from the Combu valves - the tube is known to get brittle and crack. This would lead to "low air flow". Start there. If not that, then check the many vacuum lines that are back there.
