Default Spider Hose Question

Does anyone know of a reason why it would be a bad idea to replace the plastic spider hoses with a regular flexible plastic boost hose?

I only mean to replace the hose parts - I would keep the central valve of course.

It's been done, lots of times. No reason not to.

oh thank god. I hate that thing. Borke another pipe today while removing the intake mani. There's only so much electrical tape can do...

As long as you use hose firm enough not to collapse under the vacuum, then you'll be fine.

If you end up doing this make sure to do a write up with pics. Id like to do the same thing and would be curious to see how your's turned out first.

As we all know spiderhoses aren't cheap.

I did it but forgot to take pics because I was in a hurry. I will do a write up but here's the overall experience:

I got high pressure hose from Lowes hardware - two diameters, 5/8 and 7/8 I believe. You need the smaller diameter to replace the hose running from the f-hose under the intake mani. The larger hose is for the connections to the valve covers.

The hose I got was clear with internal weave for strength - the main problem with this hose is that it is not very flexible. I wanted to be sure that I got hoses that didn't collapse but I think the high pressure hose is overdoing it. I would get some regular rubber PVC type hose instead if I were to do it again.

You cut or break the stock accordion hose and put the connectors and the central valve to the side. Using a sharp knife remove the plastic covers at the connections - this will expose normal hose barbs.

You can now just use the hose and hose clamps to replace all of the accordion sections of the spider hose. You have to play around with the lengths of the hoses a little to get the central valve to end up in the same location as before. This is the part that I have to redo - I left the hoses way too long and central valve is just "floating" and it rattle against the firewall when I'm driving. Everything works it's just very annoying.
