2007 S8 vs 2010 535ix
I can't afford a 2009 S8. But I can swap my S8 for a 2010 535ix - which is, naturally, a step down in every way, from engine to stereo (love my B&O). But, the bimmer is essentially hassle free for the next 2-3 years (assuming its not a lemon). And, the S4, while fun, is a bit too much boy-racer for me.
So, what do I do? I know you guys are S8-biased (as am I) but I'd still like to hear your thoughts/experiences.
Thanks
If I can't afford 2009 S8 (which I can't) I would rather stay with 2007 S8 with extended warranty plus some risk than fall in that half way BMW. Only similarity I see is that they both have four wheels.
even with extended warranty and taking it to the dealer still is not that smart to keep.
just the hassle of waiting for parts and having a dealer with technicians familiar with the car makes me nervous.
plus the fact that those cars lose value so bad in couple years it will woeth next to nothing.
cut your losses short and move on.
however when you ask to compare it with the 535, there's no comparison at all, just might as well get the s4.
If, however, you are going to a smaller car anyway, and I would not be happy with the running costs alone of the S8, then you have to make that move at some point and while the S8 you have still has a reasonable value I would go for it now.
Maybe a newer A6 is a good option, the latest shape is not far off an '8' anyway and running costs will be lower as well as depreciation with it being a new model.
What I am considering is either a fully loaded 550i or an M5. The M5 is going to give you all the performance (and more) of the S8 with more options than just about any of the regular 5 series cars plus a leather dash, alcantara headliner, heads up display, etc.
Just make sure you get one in warranty as the SMG transmission is not quite known for it's long term reliability. Drive one though... I absolutely love my A8 but would like something faster. The M5 was amazingly composed for what it is. You could easily daily drive it and then when you want it to move it just... well... moves.
