Default 2008 Audi A8 Exterior Light Sizes for LED & HID Upgrade

I have a 2008 Audi A8 and I am looking to convert several bulbs to LED and HID. Does anyone know the bulb sizes for my car? I don’t know if sites like OSRAM are accurate and the dealer only has Audi part numbers. I am looking for sizes of the fog light, high beam, daytime running light, city light, license plate light, and reverse light.

I was going to purchase from IJDMtoy.com. Does anyone know the quality of their products or know of a better source for the lights?

I will probably go with the following set-up.

Fog light: 4300K HID (to match the headlight, I have been told higher temps lower performance for fog)

High Beam: SilverStar Ultra (can’t go HID since they do not work well for flash nor LED due to low light output)

Daytime Running light, city light, license plate light, reverse light: 6000K LED

I will be purchasing Canbus error free bulbs except for the Daytime running light since they get too hot. I will be installing separate resistors for the DRLs instead.

How does this plan sound to you? Any advice would be really appreciated.

Thank you.

Well lets see.

Fog Lights: Defeats the purpose of the Fog light.. to put in HIDs. Then you are also seen as "that guy" who drives around with HIDS on in daylight.. :*(

High Beam: Good idea, but silverstars don't last long at all, even if it is for high beam only, more pain than gain, as the high beam with the silverstar will only be used while you hold in the high beams or flash the high beams. When you drive with them it is using the bi-xenon high beams.

DRL: Good luck finding a bulb that doesn't throw a code, and when you do good luck finding one that doesn't get so hot it burns up. (both happened to me; even with the mod resistors you purpose)

License plate light can easily be done, I got mine from tunerdomes. (DRL is the same thing as the city light) reverse lights, I haven't seen anyone try that yet.

Let us know how it all goes, and good luck with it all. When you do please document and take pictures!

I really need help with this to ensure I get the correct parts. I have a 2008 Audi A8 and I am looking to convert several bulbs to LED and HID. Does anyone know the bulb sizes for my car? I don’t know if sites like OSRAM are accurate and the dealer only has Audi part numbers. I am looking for the standard bulbs sizes for the following and have listed below what they could be.

Fog Light: OSRAM says H7 but it looks like H11?
High beam: H7?
Daytime Running Light: 1157? Or 1156? Or 7506? (Conflicting info here again)
City Light: 2825? Or 194?
License Plate Light: 6418?
Reverse Light: 921? Or is this Audi specific with a built –in base?

I was going to purchase from IJDMtoy.com. Does anyone know the quality of their products or know of a better source for the lights?

H7 for 2005+, I believe 2004 is a H11 for fogs.

License plate light; like I said go to tunerdomes and it asks what vehicle and picks it for you. But they are a festoon.

You know my opinion on the fogs and the city lights. The city lights would look great if you could get them to work properly though. They aren't too difficult to install either. And it is a 194 bulb that I used; single LED. I heard the 9-LED ones melted but didn't throw a code prior to that. (Much too hot in the housing causing the cheap LED's to melt or burn up.

Thanks for your help. I will do a little more research before proceeding. I don't want to make modifications that will create problems. I thought with the Canbus error free bulbs I would be OK but it sounds that they don't always work and that longetivity is an issue as well.

Fog is H11. I just changed mine and although Sylvania says H7, it's a H11.

Just posted separately, but it is on topic here - how do you replace fog light bulbs exactly - thanks! Now I'm slightly worried because I have Osram H7 65W Super Brights here which I what I thought was correct...

Matt, I have a 2008 A8 as well and have been upgrading bulbs, however some are easier than others. All the information is here in the forums if you search - that's where I found it.

For the license plate lights I got a 3 LED festoon.. two of them actually.

I replaced all the puddle lights and the trunk lighting as well. Really happy with those.

For DRL's I had 1 LED Canbus bulbs, but returned them before installing. I know have a 5 LED one. Supposedly this will help not throw a code because it has a higher draw. Haven't installed them yet though... slightly worried they'll just overheat and blow out.

I have Osram H7 bulbs I intend to replace the fog lights with, but I don't know exactly how to replace those bulbs so waiting for more feedback from the forums.

I bought from autolumination.com and from superbrightleds.com
