Default Trunk Issue

I've had my 2006 for about 5 months now. The truck has worked fine until now. It closes fine, but sometimes sticks going up. It seems to me the weather stripping is sticking to the trunk and it is a bit too much for the motor to overcome.

I'll try cleaning the weather stripping. Maybe the rubber treatment I put on it when I purchased the car has gotten sticky, but have others had a trunk the works fine, but stick when opening? If so, what was the cause?

I've read that trunk issues are common, but most seem to be with hinges or motors and the motor is still running and the hinges seem fine.

You might try some WD-40. The solvent in it will clean off whatever the sticky stuff is. And, the Silicon will rejuvenate the rubber while leaving the surface clean (not sticky).

There are other products that work well too. But everyone seems to have WD-40 in their toolbox. Give it a try.

Good luck

Good to know - I'll give it a try.

However, I think I know what the problem is. After I posted, I cleaned the gasket and ran the trunk up and down. It wouldn't go up without help, but I noticed it went down too fast toward the end so I tested the hydraulic lifters and the right side is much weaker than the left. This would explain why the system still works, but needs assistance going up and is too fast coming down.

Good tip thanks.

I've been having same issue as enGage recently and water and soap haven't helped.
Suspect a person who allegedly helped me with groceries by ripping the trunk open may have not helped the situation.

Did you check your hydralic lifters?

I'll know tomorrow if that is my issue, when I pick up a new one, but it sure seems to fit the symptoms.

Haven't really had time to look at them, but sounds like a possibility.

It tries hard then the trunk just flops down unless you give it a nudge.
Nothing seems to be out of alignment or sticking as far as the mechanism goes.

Keep us posted.

Lifters should be first to check. If there is difference in force between them replacing should help.

Hinges are all aluminum an as flimsy as possible. They would bend and touch lifters. It will make a mark on plastic wire holder. If that is a case just pool them to the side of a car using players or just your hand.

Lubricating is regular maintenance but it will not help here.

Will check lifters as soon as I get a chance but that sounds like a likely cause.

Used the trunk during my lunch 5 minutes today and it is not rubbing the wire holder or anything else.

The right side is significantly weaker than the left. I believe, however, that the two sides have separate part numbers so maybe that is normal???

They used to have different numbers but not any more.
