Default Fuel filter change procedure for 4.2 tdi

I am hoping to change the fuel filter this weekend but I need to know how to releive the residual pressure in the system and what is the procedure for priming the system with the new filter.

I know all you US folks are going to say tough luck because you do not have the TDi's over there yet, but I am hoping that someone may just have the procedure.

I have to change the front brake pads and do an oil change as well and all the same jobs on my wife's Touareg as well - busy weekend I think.....

Default Filter

There is hardly any pressure in the filter, just use some rags around it to collect any spill fuel.
to prime it just fill it with diesel or use ATF (automatic transmission fluid) the red color one like in old cars, this helps keep seals flexible inside the pump/s and cleans the injectors.

Generally I believe the fuel filter change is in the same procedure as replacing spark plugs as well.

S4: I currently have E3 spark plugs and I see no gain/difference from when I had the stock plugs. I am nearing 100k so I believe that it is time to change them out again. I was thinking the NGK Platinum plugs. Comments/suggestions? Thanks

I stick with the factory ngk plugs.
those and other fancy plugs have been tested by popular mechanics with very disappointing results, not even 1% gain, and those tests were made on cars that use crappy plugs to begin with.
remember these cars are running at the edge of the latest technology available and they are superior at every angle without sparing cost for the best performance.
I see problems with some or all of these "marvelous" plugs where they can't handle the heat generated by the extreme high voltage ignition systems generate this cars generate and the housing contract a lot causing the threads to come loose and vibrate damaging the threads.
specially on turbo engines we replace a few cylinder heads due to the spark plug pulling the threads when they became loose due to contraction of the plug.

The original plugs with Audi logo on my 05 A8 were Bosch Platinum +4.

Default Audi jumps around on this...

the factory W12 plugs I bought for eventual use with Audi/VW logo's and part numbers are NGK's (marked on the insulator). But I also have bought a set of factory 4.2 plugs for the C5 that were Bosch. I have removed both in tune ups on Audi's post-factory service over the years.

I was an NGK convert from Bosch on earlier Audi's where NGK innovated with copper core plugs and Bosch was still stuck in an earlier era, but that was years on and we are now at the Platinum/Iridium changeover and debate era. Both plugs (in OEM fitments) are now well regarded.

Most likely near the exact same thing as the NGK platinums as well. Both have 4 prongs too.
