Default Changing Spark Plugs on 2005 A8

I am new to the board. Recently bought a 2005 A8 with 47k. One owner beauty paid $21k at Momentum in Houston. So, looking to replace the spark plugs. First, does anyone have a step by step on getting the coils disconnected from the wiring/clips? Second, should I buy a coil puller, and if so, what one? I have found a set on Ecstuning for $50, should I get it? Lastly, as a new owner of a relatively low milage 6-year old A8, does anyone have any suggestions on maintenance or any preventative items I should perform? I have owned many large sedans, and this one is by far the best. What a great car! Thanks in advance!!!

I found it not much harder than any other car. You don't need a coil puller especially the one for $50, no offense ecs but too much money! I recommend either Bosch platinum or NGK platinum plugs. I would go with the NGKs though.
In the meantime just check the air and cabin filter.

For the rest just check the forums for everything. There are loads of posts.

Ummm...I had a MUCH different experience in pulling the plugs on my 04 and I would have gladly paid some amount of money for a coil pack puller. Maybe someone knows of one cheaper than ECS but it was damn near impossible to pull them off by hand. I guess you could try it and see and then buy the puller if you needed.

Welcome, you have joined an elite group as an A8er !

Audi maintenance schedule http://www.audiusa.com/us/brand/en/o...intenance.html

I would check the Campaign page as my 05 had an open TSB to replace the coil packs http://www.audiusa.com/us/brand/en/o...in_lookup.html

If you plan to do some/any of your own work, the Bentley manual is strongly recommended http://www.bentleypublishers.com/aud...009-ebahn.html

VCDS (formerly VAG-COM) is a must have in my book http://ross-tech.com/vag-com/index.html

Your big maintenance item is coming at 75k with the timing belt.
Approximately $2,500 at dealership and includes several other things beyond just the belt.

Welcome to the Frey! +1 on the TSB Recall for Coil Packs, it is Free if it has never been done. So research the Service Records to find that out or go the Site that was suggested. Also, if it has not been done then by your own Spark Plugs and take them with you to give to the SA or Tech to install since they have to remove the Plugs anyway to replace old Coil Packs. They should not charge much if anything at all. Good luck and welcome! Laters,

Default Thanks

Thanks for all the prompt posts! I did not have any recalls open. I will do some research and knock these plugs out. Thanks again!

As a new owner myself - beware the Bentley manual - does NOT run on windows 7 without using XP mode, which is NOT available on the "home premium" or lower versions without a LOT of fiddling. Even then, it's so slow as to be virtually unusable and although I'm pretty computer savvy, I still can't get it to print anything!

Funny how they don't push that particular bit of information on their site!

In need of a DIY for changing plugs also..how important is it to use a torque wrench when installing them?
