Default Issue with door indicators

My A6 is having an issue where the door indicators on the dash panel show all but the drivers door as open even when they are closed.

It started doing it in the afternoon after I had the car detailed though I doubt that is related.

Any ideas?

VAG-COM is your friend.

Even without the VAG COM, I bet that fuse #14 has blown. Check that, and if it is, you likely have that pinched wire in your driver seat for the rear footwell puddle light. That has been the source of that blown fuse for several folks.

A quick fix is to raise you seat as high as you can go, and unplug the small black wire connector underneath (you should see other connectors yellow, red, green and brown). After you've disconnected that black wire connector, you won't have the footwell light, but you will probably not blow that fuse again.

I had the same fuse issue, although mine was traced to a different pinched wire. Mine was a wire for the driver sun visor Homelink that got pinched after I did an install for a hardwired radar detector up the A-pillar. Same fuse, same symptoms, but different source of problem.

Default +1/Bingo!

I went thru exactly this on my 2000 4.2 last fall, and sure enough unplugging that underseat light did it. And before I did so, I found the blown fuse and then things worked until it quickly blew again. Hard to believe they are related to the issue with the instrument display about doors, but I guess it is because the shared fuse somehow. Dumb fuse wiring, and seat wiring not holding up is disappointing. I'm also starting to lose the motor functions if I put weight on the seat back, so I guess the seat is starting to crap out overall. Meantime though, following the fix flagged here seems to be the quick and stable fix for the display problem. The blown fuse had also taken out my center overhead light IIRC, and that came back too.

It's because the interior lights and door open indicators are all part of the central locking system and connected to the door contact switches.
